GRIEF AND CREATIVITY
Grief is a creative force
I want to create
I don’t want to create a business or an empire
I don’t want to create a legacy
I don’t want to create anything that is left behind in physical form
I want to create every day something beautiful
A word, a look, a meeting
A DANCE
A beautiful act of creation that is gone as soon as it is done but may leave it mark in subtle ways..or not?
To create in nature and with nature
The urge to create is the longing to be in alignment with,
In harmony with,
In service of life itself that it may create through us.
And then comes the longing.
I stay with the longing
Not mistaking the longing for a longing to create.
A longing ‘for’ anything.
But longing as an act of creation itself.
In the feeling of heartbreak, passion and grief that it brings is a creative spark.
Waiting to flower into something
I wait and feel and trust
Humility
Not the secret hope that it will become something that will then make me something
Make me someone
But the humility to accept that it is just this
Feeling, touching into the creative spark of life and knowing it.
That is enough
There is an energy and passion that comes with this longing
It makes me want to get up and go and tell the world, to make something happen, to create ‘something’.
The mind has hijacked it
I bring myself back
Back to the longing
Just this
It is hard to stay with this energy and passion
To hold it in the body and wait
That is what it means to come home
To come home and rest in this energy, this body and wait to be moved by it
To make this the spark that inspires the next move, that speaks next.
An expression of what it is to be truly “me”
No characters
Nothing to gain
Just this
THE DANCE
The song of creation
A promise to keep returning to this and remembering this
The mind will get busy, will take charge again
A day by day, moment to moment discipline.
The practice of remembering
Visceral Remembrance
To remember that it is just this and this is enough
Creativity itself
Not for doing anything, no job, no achievement, not recognition or glory
The energy of this pours like waves of coloured ribbons and fills me with a gratitude for this.
This moment, this life.
My longing to create is simply a longing to be an expression of this,
Simpler even than that, a longing to remember that I already am that.
For the physical body, the mind and this human this is uncomfortable.
But the relief that I can stop trying.
I am enough.
Dance is meditation in movement, a walking into silence where every movement becomes prayer.”
